A strong fourth quarter helped the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team defeat local rivals SUNY Potsdam 8-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson improves to 4-4 on the season while Potsdam is now 4-3.

Potsdam would be first to score, with Eric Soderquist picking up a goal at 8:33. A man-up goal from senior Matthew Gold (Pittsford, NY) at 6:26 and then a goal from senior Corey Herrington (Camillus, NY) 0:43 gave Clarkson a 2-1 lead after one quarter of play. Herrington added a second goal at 7:17 in the second quarter to double the Clarkson lead. After a Potsdam goal at 6:35, Herrington scored his third goal of the game to make the score 4-2. Potsdam was able to score with just seven seconds left in the quarter to draw within one at halftime.

The Bears would score the first goal of the second half to tie the game up, but it would be the last goal they scored. Senior Dylan Hrebenach (Saratoga Springs, NY) scored at 9:33 in the third quarter to give Clarkson a lead they would not relinquish. Sophomore Ryan St. Croix (Camillus, NY), senior Mark Nortz (Lowville, NY), and freshman Mark Uhlig (Castleton, NY) all scored goals in the fourth quarter to close out the victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Strandholm (Happy Valley, OR) made 11 saves and senior Dylan Broomfield (Clinton, NY) won 10 of 16 faceoffs. Clarkson held a 37-23 advantage in shots and a 34-26 advantage on ground balls. Broomfield had eight of those ground balls while Strandholm scooped up five.

Clarkson's next game will be on Saturday when they travel to Schenectady to play Union at 2:00 pm.
