A seven-goal, second-period outburst by Plattsburgh State was too much to overcome for the Clarkson University Lacrosse team on Wednesday night as the Golden Knights fell on the road to the Cardinals 14-10 in non-league action.

Clarkson will return to Liberty League play on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Bard College. The Knights stand at 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference with three games remaining in the regular season.

The Green and Gold started out strong at Plattsburgh with sophomore Ryan DaRin's opening goal two minutes in and built a 4-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

The Cardinals (10-5), however, controlled the second quarter, outscoring the Knights 7-2 to hold an 8-6 lead at the half. Senior Dylan Hrebenach put Clarkson on top 5-1 to start the second quarter, but Plattsburgh scored seven of the next eight goals to take the lead.

Sophomore Ryan St. Croix opened the second half with Clarkson's seventh goal of the night to cut the deficit to one, but once again the Cardinals went on a run with the next four goals to hold a 12-7 lead with 8:53 remaining in the third quarter.

The Knights closed out the period with goals by Herrington and Hrebenach to make it 12-9 through 45minutes.

Plattsburgh outscored Clarkson 2-1 in the fourth quarter to close out their home win.

The Cardinals outshot the Knights 45-41 and controlled ground balls 39-28.

Senior Matthew Gold paced the Clarkson offense with a four-point night on two goals and two assists. DaRin, Hrebenach and St. Croix each scored twice. Freshman Sam Groves also tallied a goal.

Sophomore Nick Strandholm made 14 saves in the Clarkson crease.

Brendan Damm led Plattsburgh with five goals
