Brockport, NY - After allowing three goals in the first period, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team shut down Brockport the rest of the way, allowing the opponents zero goals in the final 46-plus minutes, as the Golden Knights posted a 9-3 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 1-1 on the season and are now off until next Saturday when the team hopes to host St. John Fisher on Hantz Turf Field. The Golden Eagles fell to 0-3.

Clarkson was in control for most of the first quarter, scoring the first two goals and holding a 4-1 lead through 13 minutes, but Brockport scored twice in a span of 27 seconds to get back to within one. From that point on, the Knights would not allow the Golden Eagles to put together much offense and Clarkson goalkeeper Nick Strandholm stopped all seven shots he faced.

With a narrow 4-3 lead after the first period, the Knights slowly added to their lead as Matt Gold scored in the second, Ryan DaRin and Ryan St. Croix each scored in the third, and DaRin and Corey Herrington added late fourth-quarter goals for the 9-3 edge.

The Knights had strong advantages in most categories, including shots (49-18, and a 41-13 edge over the final three quarters), shots on goal (28-10) and groundballs (35-22). Senior Dylan Broomfield was dominant at midfield for the Knights, winning 12 faceoffs out of 16 tries and grabbing eight groundballs along the way. Sophomore Ryan DaRin tied his career-high with four points, scoring three goals and adding an assist, while Herrington added three points on two goals and an assist. Gold also had three points with a goal and two assists, while Ryan St. Croix, Mark Nortz and Mark Uhlig each added goals. Nortz also had four groundballs as did Austin Case.

For Brockport, John Countryman, Brendan Fitzgerald and Justin Cook each scored a goal, with Nick Smith adding five groundballs and four caused turnovers. Conor Nowak kept the game close for the Golden Eagles, making 19 saves in the Brockport crease.
