Knights men's hockey settles for 2-2 tie Vs Brown

For the first time this season the Clarkson University Hockey team failed to win a game when it was leading through two periods, having to settle for a 2-2 tie with Brown before 3,194 fans at Cheel Arena on Saturday.

The Golden Knights, who were 19-0 when leading through 40 minutes prior to Saturday's game, stand at 19-4-3 overall and go to second place in the ECAC Hockey standings with an 11-1-2 league mark.

Clarkson never trailed against Brown (6-12-4, 5-10-1), but could not pull away from the Bears either despite holding a 37-25 advantage in shots.

Freshman Josh Dickinson (Georgetown, ONT) started the scoring, knocking in a rebound in front off a shot by freshman defenseman Jere Astren (Helsinki, Finland) at 9:20 of the first. Sophomore Haralds Egle (Liepaia, Latvia) also assisted on Dickinson's 12th goal of the season.

Brown fought back and tied the score on Sam Lafferty's power-play marker at 14:37.

Clarkson regained the lead on a strong play by their captain early in the middle frame. Senior Nic Pierog (Georgetown, ONT) found a loose puck along the right boards and broke in on a 2-on-0 with freshman Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT). The Knights' team leader fed a pass right on the tape of Jacome's stick and the rookie left wing flipped in a shot from the slot at 1:44 for his sixth goal of the season to put the Green and Gold on top 2-1 through 40 minutes.

Brown, however, would not go away and evened the score at 5:10 of the third period when Tony Stillwell one-timed a pass from Zach Giuttari at the left circle to make it 2-2.

The Knights had the best opportunity to pull out the win with a power play with 1:20 remaining in the third that carried into the extra session. Clarkson, despite several good looks, could not convert and finish the night 0-of-3 on the man-advantage.

Brown was 1-of-2 on the power play.

Sophomore Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) made 23 saves. Luke Kania posted 35 saves for the Bears, including 12 in the third and two more in overtime.

Clarkson, which went just 1-1-2 in the just completed four-game home stand, takes to the road next weekend, playing at Quinnipiac and Princeton.
