An eight-game unbeaten streak came to an agonizing end for the Clarkson University Hockey team on Saturday night as the Number One team in the nation, Quinnipiac pulled out a 3-2 overtime victory at Cheel Arena.

The Bobcats' Devon Toews scored the game-winner with 20.8 seconds left in the extra period. Toews picked up a loose puck at the top of the left circle and fired in aPerry D'Arrisso fires a shot over Quinnipiac's Michael Garteig for his fifth goal of the season - photo by Mike Tansey shot that just trickle through Clarkson's senior goaltender Greg Lewis and over the goal line.

The Golden Knights, who also saw a six-game winning streak come to an end, stand at 16-11-3 overall and are in seventh place in the ECAC Hockey standings with an 8-7-3 league mark. With four games remaining in the regular season, Clarkson is two points out of fourth place. The Green and Gold play at Brown and Yale next weekend.

The Knights held their own against top-ranked Quinnipiac (22-2-6, 13-1-4) for the entire game and outshot the Bobcats 32-26. Quinnipiac held the edge in specialty teams playing going 1-of-3 on the power play while killing off all three of Clarkson's man-advantage opportunities.

In a fast paced up-and down first period neither team was able to capitalize on scoring chances. Clarkson outshot the Bobcats 10-6, but Quinnipiac had the best opportunity to get the opening goal when one of their top scorers, Travis St. Denis was awarded a penalty shot. Denis tried to slide a shot past Lewis on the short side, but the veteran goaltender made the save with a pad stop at 11:12. The Knights had two power plays in the period, but could not connect despite three quality shots at Quinnipiac's goaltender Michael Garteig.

The Bobcats struck first, midway through the second stanza when Chase Priskie knocked in a big rebound off a shot by Andrew Taverner into a wide open side of the net at 11:53.

Clarkson came right back 1:42 later to tie the game. Senior defenseman Kevin Tansey jumped into the rush, took a backhand pass from junior Troy Josephs and sent a wrist shot in from the right circle at 13:35 for his third goal of the season. Senior Jeff DiNallo also assisted.

The Knights grabbed a 2-1 lead midway through the third period. At 11:35, senior Pat Megannety poked the puck free from a Quinnipiac defenseman and junior Perry D'Arrisso picked it up and fired in a wrist shot from the right circle for his fifth goal of the season.

Quinnipiac, which lost in overtime at St. Lawrence on Friday, tied the game with a power-play marker from St. Denis at 14:19 to make it a 2-2 game.
