Schenectady, NY - Ten ties and 15 lead changes accompanied the double overtime match up between the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team and Union College Friday night, and after the loss of Felix Abongo (Beacon, NY), who fouled out in the first extra session, the Golden Knights couldn't keep up in a 91-84 50-minute loss to the Dutchmen.

The Golden Knights fell to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League, while Union moved to 5-6 and 2-1. Clarkson will have slightly less time to recover for Saturday's game against Rensselaer, slated for 4:00 pm.

Clarkson led by just a point at the half, but took control in the second half, leading by as many as eight points and enjoying the lead for all but a few seconds of the first 14 minutes of the second period. Union tied the game up at 63-63 and then took control and enjoyed a small advantage for the next three minutes. Abongo hit a pair of free throws with 42 seconds to go to knot the game up once again and help push the game into overtime, Clarkson's second such game in 2014.

Abongo fouled out just a minute into the first overtime, leaving Clarkson shy of its main inside scoring presence, and the Knights trailed for almost all of the overtime period. It wasn't until Marques Charlton (Deer Park, NY) hit a jumper and then followed with a pair of free throws with 49 seconds to go to send the game to a second overtime. In that extra five-minute frame, Clarkson shot just 2-for-10 from the floor and couldn't keep pace with the Dutchmen, who outscored Clarkson 12-5 down the stretch.

Abongo finished with 24 points, his second straight 20-point game, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor. He also added in seven rebounds and four assists in the contest. John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) was 10-for-18 from the floor, scoring 22 points while adding in seven boards, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Charlton shot 7-for-23, including 0-for-7 from beyond the 3-point arc after entering the game shooting better than 50 percent from long distance this year, but still managed 17 points and five assists. Overall, Clarkson came into the game leading the Liberty League with a 39.3% rate from 3-point range, but shot only 5-for-24 (20.8%) against the Dutchmen on Friday.

For Union, Kevin Weckworth scored a game-high 25 points, while William Hython and Deshon Burgess scored 20 and 17, respectively, leading Union's bench which scored a total of 39 points in the contest.
