Potsdam, NY - Senior John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) and junior Felix Abongo (Beacon, NY) combined for 43 points as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team scored 47 points in less than 16 minutes in the second half to blow past SUNY Canton 81-58 in non-league action Thursday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-0 on the season and will visit Wells College on Saturday. SUNY Canton dropped to 1-2 on the season.

In the opening minutes, Clarkson jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Kangaroos got on the scoreboard. Though Canton put a halt to the momentum on several occasions, the Golden Knights looked ready to take off at the 5:26 mark when Jeremy Liss (Vestal, NY) whistled a pass into the paint to Charles McAllister (Olathe, KS) for a lay up, giving Clarkson its largest advantage of the game (31-19). The Kangaroos responded with six straight points before a Felix Abongo 3-pointer from the corner ended the streak, and the gap finished at nine points at the break (34-25). Abongo completed the first half with 13 points, going 5-for-10 from the field, including five for his last seven, while John Coleman had nine points on 4-for-5 shooting.

The second half was a different story all together, as Clarkson expanded an 11-point edge (40-29) at the 18:00 mark to 30 points (62-32) less than seven minutes later, capped by a John Coleman 3-pointer from the corner. The Golden Knights buried eight second-half 3-pointers and shot better than 50 percent in the game from the field overall to push the Kangaroos out of striking distance. With a little over four minutes to go, Clarkson enjoyed a 37-point lead (81-44), but the Knights would not score again and the Kangaroos battled back to make the score more respectable, tallying 14 points in a span of 2:32.

Coleman finished with a game-high 22 points, shooting 9-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 from beyond the 3-point arc, to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. After a slow start, Abongo ended with 21 points, making eight of his final 12 attempts after missing his first three shots of the game. Dylan Hodownes (Honeoye Falls, NY) chipped in seven points and seven assists, and Charles McAllister dished out eight more assists as the Knights finished with 24 helpers overall.

For Canton, Romario Fletcher finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks while Khalil Bratton and Tyler Ellison each scored 10 points.
