Potsdam, NY - Following a tepid first-half, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team dropped 54 points on 59.4% shooting to avenge an early-season loss to Union College, 76-66, in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 12-8 overall and 6-5 in the Liberty League, a vital sweep as the regular-season conference schedule winds down. The Dutchmen fell to 6-11 overall and 3-6 in conference games.

In the first half Clarkson took some time to get going offensively with one field goal to three turnovers through the first few minutes, but the Knights gathered themselves and did not commit another miscure for the rest of the half. However, Clarkson still found itself trailing at the break due to a poor performance from the perimeter. Clarkson did not make one of its 10 3-point field goal attempts in the half, but thanks to the three turnovers, the Knights were able to get valuable possessions alive with six offensive rebounds. Union still went into the locker room with a four point lead as the Dutchmen shot 40.7% and 4-for-11 from beyond the 3-point arc.

The second half was a different story as Clarkson came out hot, especially Marques Charlton (Deer Park, NY), who completed his final 20 minutes with five 3-pointers in eight tries. Union had a five-point advantage five minutes into the second half, but the Dutchmen could not keep pace with Clarkson's torrid pace. Clarkson had a 54-51 advantage late in the half, but went on a 8-1 run for a double-digit advantage. That push was enough to create problems for the Dutchmen down the stretch, as Union was forced to foul to get extra possessions. The Knights shot 9-for-12 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to clinch the 10-point win.

Charlton finished with a game-high 30 points, shooting 7-for-11 in the second half, and John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) was even more efficient throughout, scoring 25 points, on 12-for-18 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds and three steals. Charles McAllister (Olathe, KS) was 5-for-8 from the field as he chipped in 11 points.

For Union, Terell Whinney was 8-for-16 from the field for a team-high 20 points, adding in nine rebounds and four assists. Ryan Whelpley added 15 points and Deshon Burgess came off the bench to score 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in only 20 minutes.
