Rochester, NY - Ending the game with a 15-2 run in the final seven-plus minutes, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team opened Liberty League play with a sweep after gaining a 68-57 victory at RIT on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in confernece play, while RIT dropped to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the league. Clarkson will host its first game of 2015 on Tuesday when it plays Skidmore College.

John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) started the scoring 3-0 in the second minute of the game and then capped off the game-opening 13-2 run with another 3-pointer four minutes later as the Golden Knights raced out to a strong lead. A Dylan Hodownes (Honeoye Falls, NY) 3-pointer pushed the lead to 18-4 and a Hodownes lay in at the 6:29 mark pushed the Clarkson advantage to as many as 16 points (30-14). Up 36-22 with 3:50 to go, however, Clarkson's offense fell flat and RIT took advance to get back within single digits by the break (36-28).

In the second half, the Tigers rallied back to tie the score at 43-43 and then used a 7-0 run to take their first lead (50-49) at 10:17. RIT appeared to have the momentum on its side and took a two-point lead with 7:24 remaining, but the Knights defense shut the home team down from that point on. Felix Abongo (Beacon, NY) buried a pair of free throws to tie the game, sparking an 11-0 run over the course of 2:20 to give Clarkson a nine-point edge (64-55). Hodownes made four free throws in the final minute of the game as RIT continued to struggle, allowing Clarkson a double-digit win.

Coleman scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, shooting 10-for-18 from the field, and added in five rebounds and two steals. With his final rebound of the game, Coleman became just the seventh player in Clarkson history to reach 600 rebounds in his career. Charles McAllister (Olathe, KS) contribued 14 points, four boards and three assists and Hodownes added in 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Abongo had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists and a pair of blocks. For RIT, 10 differnet players scored, but just two finished in double figures, led by Joe Stortini's 12 points and followed by Kamron Davis's 10 points.
