Potsdam, NY –Three players finished in double figures, led by a Felix Abongo (Beacon, NY) double-double, as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team completed a weekend sweep at the North Country Classic on Sunday by downing Morrisville State 64-45 at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-0 and will take on SUNY Canton next Thursday. In the earlier game of the tournament, St. Joseph's (VT) outlasted Potsdam in overtime, 84-80.

Scoring was slow in the opening minutes, but Clarkson steadily added tallies to push to a 13-4 lead at the 12:17 mark, and out to a 21-6 advantage after a pair of free throws from Jeremy Liss (Vestal, NY) at the 7:55 mark. The Mustangs buried a couple of perimeter shots and pulled back to within four (24-16) with 2:04 to go, but the Knights finished with a 9-0 run, including a lay in by Felix Abongo in the waning seconds of the half.

In the second half, Clarkson slowed the pace down and used some perimeter passing to extend its lead to more than 20, and Morrisville never really challenged the Knights for the remainder of the game.

Dylan Hodownes (Honeoye Falls, NY) scored 13 points and added seven rebounds and four steals for the Knights, while John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) produced 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Abongo shot 6-for-12 from the field for 12 points and 11 rebounds. For Morrisville, Ibrahima Toure scored 12 points and had seven rebounds, while Jared Donalson was a force on the block with 18 rebounds and five blocks.

In the opener, St. Joseph's and Potsdam produced a rapid offensive flow that helped the two teams combine for 92 points and better than 50 percent shooting from the floor. With the game tied at 17-17 with just over five minutes expired from the game, the Bears went on a 10-0 run in the next four minutes, capped off by a Tariq McIntyre free throw at 10:44. Though St. Joseph's would pull within three points at 37-34 on a 3-pointer from Dre Anderson, the Bears always seemed to have an answer at the other end to keep their opponents at a safe distance. Potsdam would lead by as many as 11 in the half, and finished with a 10-point advantage when McIntyre delivered a lay in with just a few seconds remaining in the period.

Potsdam led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but could not shake St. Joseph's. The Bears saw their lead dwindle to three points midway through the half, but led by seven with 4:29 to go. With under 30 seconds to go, Potsdam led by four, but St. Joseph's pulled within two with a lay up and then made a quick steal and buried a pair of free throws to tie the game at 73-73. Despite not leading by more than one point in overtime with just two minutes to go, St. Joseph's was able to score its final six points entirely on free throws to hold off the Potsdam charge.

Dre Anderson finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds for St. Joseph's, while Kashean Alston chipped in 10 points and 14 boards. Four players finished in double figures for the Bears, led by Rishawd Hendricks 18 points and nine rebounds. Zac Adams and Joe Estramonte added 17 points and 16 points, respectively, and Tishsean Emmanuel scored 11 points and totaled four assists and three steals before fouling out.
