Trailing 4-0 after three quarters the Clarkson University Lacrosse team rallied over the final 15 minutes with six unanswered goals to pull out a 6-4 Liberty League victory at Vassar College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who snapped a three-game losing skid, improve their record to 4-4 overall and to 1-1 in the conference.

The host Brewers (2-5, 0-2) controlled the opening half on Saturday, taking a 4-0 lead through 30 minutes. After a scoreless third quarter, Clarkson’s offense finally came to live in the final stanza.

Junior Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) started the Green and Gold comeback with the first two goals in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Matt McCabe (Syracuse, NY) followed, and Huff scored again with his team-high 13th goal of the season to tie the game with 9:14 remaining.

McCabe tallied his second of the game to put the Knights in front with 2:28 left on the clock. Junior Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, MA) closed out the scoring with Clarkson’s sixth goal with 63 seconds remaining.

Huff led all scorers with three goals. McCabe recorded two goals and one assist. Sam Seymour tallied two goals for the Brewers.

The Knights outshot Vassar 24-20, including a 9-2 margin in the fourth quarter. Clarkson controlled groundballs, 27-21, and faceoffs, winning 10 of 14 draws.

Sophomore Pat Briggs (Baldwinsville, NY) made his first start of the season in the Clarkson goal and recorded six saves to earn the victory. Junior Matt Davidson (Hilton, NY) and senior Mike Perkins (Baldwinsville, NY) highlighted a strong defensive effort by the Green and Gold with three and two caused turnovers, respectively. Davidson also picked up two groundballs, while Perkins shared the Clarkson lead in groundballs at three with junior Pat Kilday (Westford, MA).?Clarkson plays its final non-league game of the season Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at crosstwon rival Potsdam State.
