Macedon, NY - A run of good weather this fall finally came to an end on Saturday as the Clarkson University Golf team and 10 other squads slogged through 18 holes at the Blue Heron Hills Country Club vying for the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Golf Championships on Saturday.
The par-71 course proved difficult for numerous golfers, as none of the 64 student-athletes was able to go shoot below par on Saturday. Clarkson is tied for sixth among 11 teams at the event with a score of 323 after the first day, trailing host St. John Fisher (292), Oswego State (312), New York University (314), Hobart College (320), Penn State-Harrisburg (321), while tied with Elmira (323), and ahead of Rutgers Camden (326), Potsdam State (333), Nazareth (349), and Utica (366).
Freshman Anthony Monteleone (Warsaw, NY) led the way for the Knights on the opening day, shooting a seven-over par 78, good enough for 17th place, while senior Tyler Cline (Tuxedo, NY) was in a multi-player tie for 18th with a 79. Freshman Brian Billings (Webster, WI) and junior Scott Henning (Vienna, VA) each shot 83 to tie for 37th, while freshman Nate Zakreski (Hartland, WI) rounded out the Clarkson effort with a 92 in 58th place.
The event will conclude on Sunday, beginning at 10:00 am.
