The Clarkson University Baseball team was picked as the seventh-seed in the NCAA New York Regional which is set to begin on May 18th at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY. The Golden Knights will face second-seeded Farmingdale State at 7:45 pm on Wednesday night, the final game of the first day's events.

The Golden Knights, reaching only their second-ever NCAA Tournament but the second in the past three seasons, are 2-2 all-time in NCAA play. Back in 2009, Clarkson opened the New York Regional with a victory over top-seeded Cortland State (15-12), before falling in the first winners' bracket game to Farmingdale State (19-10). Clarkson then rebounding with a 5-2 victory over Western New England before bowing out against conference foe Rensselaer (11-10) on a walk-off hit by the Engineers.

Clarkson, led by 11th year head coach Jim Kane and second-year assistant Tim Hughes, has a 19-17 overall record after finishing third in the Liberty League with a 13-11 conference mark. The Golden Knights started the season 13-6 before falling on a touch stretch. With a 2-0 weekend in the Liberty League Championships, the Golden Knights claimed the title, defeating Skidmore 2-1 on Friday and pounding Rensselaer 17-3 on Saturday, in what proved to be the championship game.

Clarkson is led by junior David Kinney (Mexico, NY), the Liberty League Player of the Year and the Liberty League Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The third baseman/relief pitcher is batting .401 on the season with a league-best .682 slugging percentage. He also paced the conference in doubles (18), home runs (6), total bases (97), and OPS (1.136). On the mound, he posted a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings, striking out 14 batters to gain two victories and three saves.

Kinney, along with shorstop Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY) and catcher Sam Grainger (Bedford, MA) were chosen as Liberty League First-Team All-Stars, while pitchers David Goerold (Clifton Park, NY) and Bryan Chudy (Goshen, NY) as well as second baseman Justin McInerney (Grand Island, NY) also gained conference all-star notice as honorable mentions.
