Two early goals sealed the fate of the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team as they fell to the Plattsburgh State Cardinals 2-1 Wednesday night at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights fall to 1-4-0 and hit the road for the first time in 2013 as they take on Potsdam State Sunday at 1:00 pm. Plattsburgh State remains undefeated at 5-0-1 and will host Skidmore College this Saturday.

The Cardinals got on the board first in the 11th minute as Fabian Chaparro took a corner kick and placed it right at the head of Alexis Archilla who finished by guiding the ball toward the upper right corner of the net for the goal.

Plattsburgh took the lead for good in the 21st minute when Archilla crossed from the right side to Nick Parella who then booted a ground ball passed the diving Clarkson goalkeeper Alex White (Unadilla, NY) for the score.

The damage could have been worse for the Knights if not for a blocked shot right in front of the net by Trevor Blackwell (Pittsford, NY) and an indirect kick that soared into the net for Plattsburgh but was called off because no one touched the ball after the kick before it went into the net.

Clarkson got on the board in the 32nd minute when Tucker Wilcox (Broadlalbin, VT) gathered the ball in traffic in front of the Plattsburgh net and blasted a ground ball between a diving goalkeeper and the left post. The goal was Wilcox's second on the season.

Both teams played a fairly even second half that did not see many scoring opportunities despite combining for 10 shots.

Plattsburgh outshot Clarkson 13-7 on the evening and although the teams combined for 20 shots, only four were on net. Goalkeeper John Toper did not save a ball in the win and White stopped one ball for the Golden Knights in the loss. The Cardinals held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
