Plattsburgh, NY - A pair of goals midway through the second half sent the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team to its fifth straight loss as they fell to Plattsburgh State 2-0 in non-league action Wednesday evening.
The Golden Knights dropped to 0-5-1 overall on the season while Plattsburgh remained unbeaten and untied at 8-0-0. Clarkson opens the conference schedule this weekend when it faces Hobart College.
Clarkson was out shot 8-2 in the opening half, but the two teams were tied at the halfway point. It wasn't until the 70th minute that the Cardinals jumped out ahead when Mike Payne scored his third goal of the year, chipping a shot over top of Clarkson goalkeeper Scott Stuart (Ottawa, ONT). Just six minutes later, Plattsburgh added an insurance goal as Tom Greene made a move around a Clarkson defender in the middle of the box and was able to take an unimpeded shot for a score at 75:45.
Plattsburgh out shot the Knights 15-6 and held a 5-1 edge in corner kick chances. Scott Stuart made five saves for the Knights, while Andy Heighington stopped three saves for a shutout.
