Potsdam, NY – Receiving 53 points from its reserves, Hobart College proved to have enough fire power on offense to take down the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team for the second time in 2017, beating the Golden Knights 80-56 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped to 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the Liberty League and Hobart improved to 13-8 overall and 8-4 in conference games. Clarkson has four games remaining, with two coming next weekend at Alumni Gymnasium.

Hobart never trailed in the game, opening up with a 3-pointer and never looking back. The Statesmen pushed out to a double-digit lead midway through the first half on a Sam Allen jumper, making the score 19-9, and then edged out further (30-15) on a Tucker Lescoe 3-pointer at the 5:18 mark. Hobart's bench scored 23 points in the first half, matching Clarkson's overall total in the first 20 minutes.

Clarkson trailed by 14 at the break, but the Knights would not allow the deficit to grow in the early minutes of the second half, as the two teams traded baskets for the first eight minutes. Eventually, Hobart broke through and increased the margin to 19 points after a Colin Dougherty layup at the 10:24 mark. Just a few minutes later, though, Clarkson was back to within 11 points on a Derek Hart layup with six minutes to go, and the Knights still trailed by just 12 with 4:37 remaining when Liam Ellis knocked down a 3-pointer. However, the final four minutes saw things get away from the Knights, as Hobart's offense continued to click and Clarkson's sputtered. The Statesmen ended the game with a 14-3 run, with the majority of the points coming from the reserves once again.

Derek Hart finished with a game-high 21 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field, and added seven rebounds and three blocks. The senior forward has now scored more points this season (439) than in his previous three seasons combined (424). Sophomore guard Liam Ellis scored a career-high 19 points and matched his career-high with 14 rebounds. For Hobart, Dougherty finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists and Tucker Lescoe scored 19 points off the bench. Sam Allen also chipped in 10 more points in reserve minutes as Hobart's non-starters outscored Clarkson's non-starters 53-6.
