Geneva, NY - A 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line in the final 28 seconds allowed the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to claim a 69-65 win over William Smith on Friday night, its first win on the road against the Herons since the Liberty League was renamed a decade ago.

The Golden Knights improved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the Liberty League, while the Herons fell to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Clarkson will face RIT at 2:00 pm on Saturday. Friday night's victory pushed Clarkson's winning streak to six games, the longest since Clarkson enjoyed a nine-game winning streak in the 1990-91 season.

Though Clarkson started off the game with a 3-pointer, the Knights would trail for most of the first half, falling behind by as many as eight points in the first half. However, a 10-0 run in just 1:07 gave the Knights the lead late in the first half and Clarkson would enter the locker room with a narrow 40-36 advantage. The second half was not much different, though Clarkson was able to gain a seven-point lead (53-46) midway through the stanza. William Smith used a 10-0 run of its own to take a 56-53 lead at 6:35, but the Knights wouldn't let that momentum shift change the eventual outcome. Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) buried a 3-pointer at 4:58 and, though the game would be tied later on, Clarkson would never trail again. In the final minute, Madison Shea (Clifton Park, NY), Cara Manfredi (Glastonbury, CT) and Loggins each went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to hold off the William Smith charge.

Loggins and Manfredi each finished with 20 points to pace the Knights, while Stephanie Grobe (White River Junction, VT) had a solid all-around game with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists. For William Smith, Chloe Hayter had a game-high 23 points, shooting 8-for-15 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line, to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds. Melanie Patterson produced 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists for the Herons.

Clarkson enjoyed a 43-35 rebounding advantage, and the Knights were able to take 23 more shots than William Smith in the game thanks to 21 offensive rebounds and by turning the ball over 14 times compared to 23 miscues by the Herons.
