Clermont, FL - Freshman Katie Scott delivered an RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th to start a great day for the Clarkson University Softball team as the Golden Knights earned their first ever extra-inning win, 4-3 over Smith College, and first ever mercy-rule victory, a 10-2 victory against New England College.

The Golden Knights moved to 3-1 on the season and will face Plymouth State and Worcester State on Sunday afternoon.

Smith College scored one in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and another in the fifth on a bunt single to take a 2-0 lead through five innings, but in the bottom half of the sixth Clarkson tied the score at 2-2. Summer Lancette led off the inning with a single and stole second and had no trouble coming around on a double by Raeanna Dunn. Jamie Bridge then singled to advance Dunn to third and Chelsea Elliott had enough juice on her flyball to score Dunn on a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless seventh, the game moved to extra innings with each frame beginning with a runner on second base. The Pioneers scored in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, but Clarkson responded with a run of its own when Jamie Bridge legged out a two-out infield single that brushed off the pitchers glove enough for her to beat the throw from the shortstop, allowing MacKenzie Pelton to score from third. In the top of the ninth, the Knights lucked out with a double play, getting a harmless pop out to the pitcher and then doubling up the runner at third, but Clarkson was unable to score in the bottom half of the inning. That would change in the bottom of the tenth, as Erika Jenson began the inning on second base, moved up to third on a Katie Pelton groundout, and raced home when Katie Scott singled to the third baseman and allowed Jenson to score.

In the nightcap played a few hours after the conclusion of the first game, Clarkson was able to run up an eight-run advantage to earn a 10-2 win against New England College.
