Potsdam, NY – A trio of Clarkson University Women's Cross Country runners crossed the finish line at 21:03 to help lead the Golden Knights to an outstanding showing at the 2013 North Country Invitational held at the Munter Trails on the campus of Clarkson University.
The Golden Knights' men's team was even more dominant, finishing with the top 12 runners in the second race.
The event was a non-scoring affair, but the Golden Knights still treated it as a showcase for their outstanding early efforts. Senior Catherine Zarnofsky (Glenville, NY), classmate Erin Corrigan (Remsen, NY), and classmate Fiona Recchia (Latham, NY) all finished the 5,000-meter race with times of 21 minutes, 3 seconds, but that order was the official finish, giving Zarnofsky her second win in five days. The Golden Knights also had the eighth, ninth, and tenth place finishers in freshman Allie Day (North Yarmouth, ME)), who crossed the finish line at 22:41, junior Chelsea Farinacci (Huntington, NY)), who finished a second later, and sophomore Meghan McKenna (Hamburg, NY), who raced to a time of 22:45. Clarkson also had the 12th-15th place finishers in the event as well.
On the men's side, sophomore Ryan Recchia (Latham, NY) won the event by a solid margin with a time of16:27, besting teammate Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) by 27 seconds. Senior Phillip Spinosa (Spencerport, NY) came in third in 17:03 and then a large pack of Golden Knights came flying through, coming in fourth (17:05) through 12th (17:34), before a strong sprint in the last 40 yards by a St. Lawrence runner ended the Clarkson run. Sophomore Mike Feeney (Lockport, NY) and senior Ryan Ash (Glens Falls, NY) rounded out the top five for the Knights.
