Canton, NY – Graduate student Abigail Sullivan topped the race results for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as both the men and women gained first place finishes at the SUNY Canton Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights' women had the first five runners cross the finish line to score a team-low 15 points, ahead of St. Lawrence (47) and SUNY Canton (84). The men also narrowly gained a win with 25 points, edging St. Lawrence (31), SUNY Canton (92) and Paul Smith's (100). Clarkson will participate in the annual Cross Country-Only Championships next weekend.

Sullivan finished the 6,000-meter course in first place with a time of 23 minutes, 43.69 seconds, close to 20 seconds faster than the next competitor. That next runner happened to be teammate Sarah Duclos, who took second with a time of 24:02.72. Junior Jessie Muirden followed in third in 24:13.26 and freshman Hannah Yorkey took fourth with a time of 24:17.17. Clarkson closed out its scoring with senior Katie Ackner coming in fifth in 24:22.95. The Knights still would have won handily with their next two runners as senior Alison Davis came in seventh in 24:32.10 and freshman Elizabeth Fawwaz came in ninth in 24:49.05.

The men were not quite as dominant as the women, but they still had enough to gain a six-point win over St. Lawrence. Senior Jack Broderick came in fourth overall, finishing the 8,000-meter event in 28:26.65. He just edged out freshman Kevin Cronin, who took sixth with a time of 28:32.90. Sophomore Brandon George was next in seventh in 28:37.22 and freshman Sean Byrnes followed closely in eighth place in 28:39.59. Senior Seth Richardson then finished off the points for the Knights, taking 10th in 28:40.47. Senior Austin Smith ended up in 12th place in 28:57.44 and classmate Michael Leczinsky finished 14th with a time of 29:06.57.
