Sophomore Ashley Forshey (Scotia, NY) and senior Dan Caruso (Amherst, NH) powered the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team to a sweep at the Clarkson Invitational this weekend at Whiteface Lake Placid.
Forshey beat all skiers in the Women's 15k Skiathlon with a time of 55:16, over three minutes ahead of anyone else. Senior Erin Corrigan (Remsen, NY) was the second Golden Knight to cross the finish line with a time of 59:43, followed closely by Olivia Dawson (Scottsville, NY) at 59:56. Clarkson defeated Cornell by three points to take the event.
In the Men's 15k Skiathlon it was Caruso who took second place overall with a time of 45:13 to lead all Knights. The Green and Gold would continue to dominate as junior Adam Merkwan (Meredith, NH) took third with a time of 46:24, and sophomore Eric Mallery (Webster, NY) placed right behind him at 46:44. The Knights cruised to a six point victory over second place Cornell.
In the Women's 3-Person Sprint Relay it was the Knights that once again finished on top with a time of 32:24. The University of Vermont finished in second at 34:09 and Cornell rounded out the top finished with a time of 34:36.
On the men's side the Knights completed the sweep as Clarkson completed the Men's 3-Person Sprint Relay with a time of 25:59, nearly a full minute ahead of Cornell to take the victory.
