Canton, NY - An early spot on the schedule did little to deter the Clarkson University Volleyball team on Saturday morning, as the Golden Knights came storming out of the gate with a three-set sweep over Vassar College, 25-13, 25-22, 25-21, to move to 2-1 at the Liberty League Tournament Championships held at Burkman Gymnasium on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

The Golden Knights, who are now 26-9 overall, have just one match left in the championships, against second-seeded Skidmore at 3:00 pm. Vassar fell to 17-15 on the year.

While Clarkson dominated the first set, it was the second set where the team proved it was back in top form. The Knights struck for an amazing 21 kills (out of 25 possible points), led by junior Sara Artus (St. Regis Falls, NY), who had nine kills in the set along the way to 17 kills in the match. In both of the final two sets, Clarkson trailed midway through the match, but each time rallied to take away victories.

Artus hit nearly .500 in the match (17-2-32) and Clarkson hit .307 overall in the match. Nicole Edwards (Weiser, ID) went for 8 kills against a single error in 12 swings and added a pair of blocks. Freshman Lani Durio (Austin, TX) had 36 assists and 12 digs, while classmate Erika Chin (Katy, TX) added 17 digs and three aces. Alison Schroeder (Webster, NY) had a team-best 24 digs.
