Saratoga Springs, NY – For 15 innings, the Clarkson University Baseball team allowed just three runs against Skidmore, but the Golden Knights still could come away with just a split against the Thoroughbreds, dropping the Sunday opener 2-1 and winning the nightcap 5-1.

The Golden Knights moved to 10-12 overall and 5-7 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore saw its record go to 13-17 and 8-12. Clarkson will take on RIT midweek in a makeup doubleheader and then head to Rensselaer for a four-game set next weekend.

Skidmore scored twice in the second inning to score all of the runs it would need to hold off Clarkson in game one. Hayden Smith delivered a one-out double to plate Jake Hardy and then came around himself when Ryan Strickland singled up the middle for a 2-0 Thoroughbreds lead. Clarkson cut the margin in half in the fifth inning as Ben Knauf led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Joe Stockman. After two straight strikeouts, Will Coleman put the ball in play and was able to reach on an error, allowing Knauf to score Clarkson's lone run of the game.

Ryan Riley went 5.1 innings for Clarkson, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out five, but Skidmore's Spencer Anderson whiffed nine and allowed just the single unearned run on seven hits in six innings for the win. Nate Burns and Knauf each recorded two hits for Clarkson in game one.

In the second game, Clarkson was very opportunistic, scoring five runs on just four hits in the game. In the third inning, the Knights scored two runs on a single from Dan Pariso and a sacrifice fly by Coleman, as both Brad Pearson, who reached on a walk, and Nolan Duda, who was hit by a pitch, scored. In the eighth, Clarkson scored three runs on just one hit without the ball leaving the infield. Coleman reached on an error and Knauf singled on a bunt. A sacrifice bunt pushed the two runners in to scoring position, and Joe Stockman then reached on a fielder's choice without an out being recorded. Coleman then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0, but Mike Tito walked to reload the bases. Duda walked to force in Knauf and Stockman then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0. Although Hayden Smith doubled home a run in the bottom of the eighth, Clarkson had more than enough to hold on for the win.

Rory Corcoran picked up the win for the Knights, allowing just two hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Mike Bubniak then logged 3.2 innings to record a well-earned save.
