Auburndale, FL - Another sterling start from a Clarkson University Baseball starting pitcher was combined with the best offensive showing in the young 2015 season as the Golden Knights picked up an 11-3 victory over Brockport State Saturday evening at the Lake Myrtle Complex.

The Knights improved to 5-0 overall, still their best start since the 2003 season (7-0), while Brockport dropped to 4-3 on the season. Clarkson will take on Fitchburg State on Sunday morning with a quick turnaround, playing at 9:30 am.

Clarkson took little time giving starting pitcher Ted Wilson a lead, scoring a run in the bottom half of the first. John Coleman singled, stole second and moved to third on a single from Greg Jasek. A ball in the dirt allowed Coleman to plate the first run of the game, but it would be far from his last. In the bottom of the third, Matt Jenack led off the frame with a walk and Coleman followed with a single to center. After both were moved up on a groundout, Chris Miller laced a double to the left-center gap to put Clarkson up 3-0.

Brockport responded with a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to two with a sacrifice fly, but Clarkson just about put the game out of reach with a six-run fourth. The Knights batted around, manufacturing their first two runs before the offense opened up with a two-run single by Dom Pirro and a two-run double by Paul Ludden. The Golden Eagles chipped away with a run in the top of the fifth on a fielder's choice and scored one more in the eighth with a groundout to make the score 9-3, but Pirro singled two more home in the bottom half of the inning for an 11-3 final.

The top four in the order did the majority of the damage for the Knights going 9-for-19 with eight runs scored and seven driven in, led by John Coleman's 3-for-5 effort with four runs scored. Pirro was 2-for-5 with four driven in, Miller went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Jasek went 2-for-5. Ted Wilson picked up the win, allowing only five hits and inducing 14 groundouts. Andrew Smith came on in relief and closed out the game with three solid innings.
