Knights alpine skiers strong on Day Two at Okemo

Ludlow, VT - Freshman Asa Frankowski (Madison, NH) and sophomore Hayes Lowth (Meredith, NH) tied for top honors for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team as the Golden Knights concluded the opening weekend at Okemo Mountain in the UConn Invitational.

After only one run was raced in the giant slalom on Thursday, the slalom had two runs to score the racers on Friday at Okemo. Freshman Asa Frankowski and sophomore Hayes Lowth finished in a tie for third among 70 competitors on Friday, with each finishing with a time of 1:21.43. Lowth actually had the top time after his first run before settling for eighth in his second, while Frankowski had two consistent runs that put him in the top six each time. Freshman Greg Murray (Trumbull, CT) came in 12th place in 1:22.82 and junior Austin Florian (Southington, CT) took 14th in 1:23.31. Junior Ian Williams (Fleischmanns, NY) finished off the best weekend of his collegiate career by taking 21st to round out Clarkson's scoring.

Sean Donohue (Bolton Landing, NY) took 27th in 1:25.46, Christian Avery (Lyme, NH) placed 33rd in 1:27.07, and Eli Greenwald (Manhattan, NY) came in 37th in 1:28.13 to also aid in the Clarkson cause.

On the women's side, sophomore Kara Van Herwarde (Killington, VT) enjoyed her best collegiate finish by coming in fifth out of 75 skiers, three spots higher than her previous best, with a time of 1:34.51. Junior Taylor Manderson (Ballston Spa, NY) claimed her eighth top 10 finish in the last 12 MacConnell Division races by placing 10th with a time of 1:36.78 and classmate Kelly Rowland (West Windsor, NJ) followed up her fine performance from Thursday by taking 15th in 1:38.93. Freshmen Tara Seigle (Poland, NY) and Libby McCusker (Grafton, MA) placed back-to-back in 19th and 20th, respectively, with times of 1:39.85 and 1:39.90.

Just outside the scoring for the Knights were freshman Sonja Gagen (Aspen, CO) came in 21st and junior Ashley Yoviene (Boston, NY) took 22nd, while sophomore Casey Abraham (Westbrook, CT) finished 59th.
