Kylee Knight and Laura Finley each had a double and a triple in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader with SUNY Canton, as Knight led the Saints with four RBI in a 10-1 win over the Roos in five innings. Canton (5-5) rebounded for an 8-5 win in the second game to earn the split with St. Lawrence (7-8).

Knight led the Saints at the plate in both games, going a combined 6-for-8 with five RBI and three runs scored. On the mound, Emma Gailey allowed just one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in the Saints win, sitting the Roos down in order in each of the first three innings.

The Saints scored one run in the first inning after Finley tripled to left and Kelsey Murphy brought her home with a sac fly to left field the very next at bat.

In the second inning, Abrianna Schlickenmayer singled in the lead-off spot and Elle Gray reached on a throwing error by the Roos catcher after a well-place bunt down the first base line. St. Lawrence continued to play small ball, as junior Jordan Sheridan laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners before Knight jacked a triple to the base of the wall in left center to push the Saints' lead to 3-0. Finley's double in the next at bat brought the Oakland, Maine native home for a 4-0 advantage heading into the third.

St. Lawrence pushed four runs across on five hits in the third inning to extend its lead to 8-0, as Mylea Mann and Carly Dziekan singled to start it, with Mann scoring on a sac fly to right by Schlickenmayer. A single by Elle Gray and another sac bunt by Sheridan put runners on second and third for Knight, who came up with her second extra-base hit of the game with a two RBI double deep down the left field line. Finley's RBI single to center plated Knight for the team's eighth run.

Heads-up base running by Canton's Rhea Coad helped the Roos to their lone run of the game as she took two bases no a foul out on the first base side and then scored on an RBI single the next at bat.

But two more runs in the fourth – both unearned – pushed the Saints lead to the eventual 10-1 margin, with the team's 10th run coming from an RBI single by Aleasha Barcomb, who made her first plate appearance of the season on Saturday afternoon.

In the second game, it was Canton who jumped in front early with a four-run first inning; tagging first-year pitcher Allie Courtwright for four hits, all for extra bases with three doubles and a triple, in addition to a throwing error by the Saints that kept the inning alive.

The Saints answered with one run in the bottom of the frame when Laura Finley scored on a ball hit to the infield by Mann, who reached first on a throwing error by the Roos' second baseman.

Before St. Lawrence could close the gap, SUNY Canton added four more runs on five hits in the top of the fifth to take and 8-1 lead. Starter Allie Courtwright was relieved by Gailey midway through the inning; she finished with seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts. Gailey would give up four hits and one run in two and two-thirds innings of work, while adding two strikeouts of her own.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Saints again chipped away, as Jordan Sheridan came around to score on another RBI double by Knight to cut the deficit to 8-2.

The Saints threatened with last ups in the bottom of the seventh as three straight singles loaded the bases for Mann with no one out. She hit a ground ball to second and would reach on a fielder's choice, as the Roos opted for a play at the plate on Knight, but the throw sailed wide and allowed two runs to score, as Finley followed to make it 8-4 in favor of the visitors.

Kelsey Murphy scored the Saints fifth and final run of the day on an RBI bloop single to left center by Dziekan.

The Saints has two opportunities with the bases loaded and the potential game-winning run at the plate, but Emma Reakes lined out to shortstop and Elle Gray fouled out to first to end the game.

St. Lawrence will open Liberty League play with a pair of road doubleheaders next weekend, facing Clarkson first on Saturday in Potsdam before traveling to Skidmore on Sunday.
