Sophomore John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) of the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team earned plenty of honors last season as a first-year player for the Golden Knights, earning conference and regional rookie of the year honors. In his second year, Coleman picked up right where he left off and was chosen as the Liberty League Performer of the Week for his two-game stint this past weekend.
Coleman produced a pair of double-doubles for the Golden Knights as they won the North Country Invitational at Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday. Against Berkeley (NY) on Friday, the sophomore scored a team-best 24 points and added 12 rebounds, shooting 11-for-16 from the field, and then followed that up with 14 points (7-for-9 shooting) and 15 rebounds in a 65-63 victory over Ithaca College.
On the weekend, he averaged 19.0 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 72.0 percent (18-for-25) from the floor. Last year, Coleman finished in the top five in the country in field goal percentage, setting a Clarkson single-season record in the process.
