Sophomore Kiera Taussig scored four of the first five goals for the St. Lawrence University Women's Lacrosse team Saturday and Abigail Owens netted the final two Saints goals of the day as St. Lawrence scored a 9-7 Liberty League victory over Rensselaer Saturday afternoon on Weeks Field at Leckonby Stadium in Canton.

The Saints (3-8 Overall, 1-4 Liberty League) never trailed in the game as Taussig scored three of her four goals on the day in the first half. Kara Hurley added a first half goal for St. Lawrence as the Saints built a 4-3 advantage after the first 30 minutes of action.

In the second half, Taussig added her fourth goal of the game giving St. Lawrence a 5-3 lead. The Engineers (5-5, 3-2) rallied for two goals to tie the score but Jacqueline Sovie and Chloe Knapp scored over a two minute span to regain the two-goal advantage for the Saints.

After Erin Riley scored for RPI to trim the lead to 7-6, Owens scored twice in the final 4:30 to seal the victory.

The St. Lawrence defense was solid all day but played particularly well in the second half. The Engineer were limited to just one free-position shot all day and the Saints held a 12-7 shots advantage in the second half of play and forced eight RPI turnovers in the final 30 minutes.

Adden Cunningham made five saves in the St. Lawrence goal and controlled the pace of play with two deliberate advances up the field eating nearly eight minutes off the clock.

Taussig led the Saints with four points on her four goals and Owens added three points with two goals and an assist. Julie Mitiguy and Emma Garfield had two caused turnovers each while Mitiguy and Tori Smith each had a pair of draw controls for St. Lawrence.
