The St. Lawrence University cross country duo of sophomore Megan Kellogg and junior Lisa Grohn finished first and second, but SUNY Geneseo placed all five of its scoring runners in the top 16 and won the battle of top-ten teams 56-118 with RIT and RPI third and fourth with 130 points at the 32-team Geneseo Mike Woods Invitational on Saturday.

It was the first time a New York State Division III team has finished in front of the Saints since the 2013 NCAA Championship when NYU edged the Saints in both the finals and the Atlantic Regional. The Saints had gone 17 straight races without a loss to an in state opponent prior to Saturday, which matched nationally sixth-ranked Geneseo against the seventh-ranked Saints. Four other nationally ranked teams were in the race with RIT ranked 21st, RPI 27th, fifth place Dickinson 15th and sixth place Elizabethtown 18th.

Kellogg continued an outstanding start to her sophomore season with her fourth straight race win, leading the 453-runner field with a time of 21:34.5, just 15 seconds in front of teammate Grohn, who was second in 21:49.9. The top five runners were the only ones in the race to break 22:00.

Sophomore Ashley Leta was the third Saint finisher, 21st in 22:30.9 and scoring 20th while rookie Elina Breton was the fourth Saint scorer 48th overall and scoring 46th in 23:04.2 and her sister Anna completed the Saint scoring 52nd overall and 49th among scorers in 23:08.1 Sarah Moon was 81st in 23:28.3 and Caroline Driscoll finished 110th to complete the Saint top seven.

Abigail Bourcy finished 129th, Gaelyn Bronson 145th, Carrie Pomainville 153rd, Madeline Funk 160th, Emma Putre 189th, Alexis Bruno 222nd, Lindsay Howe 242nd, Miabelle Salzano 250th, Courtney Mullen 276h and Rachel Waldrop 359th for the Saints.

The Saints will take on another tough field in their next outing, running at the UW Oshkosh Invitational on Oct. 17.
