CANTON, N.Y.—Junior forward Justin Kellett (Chazy Lake, N.Y./North Country C.C.) scored in the 108th minute to lift the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (8-5-1, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) to a badly needed 2-1 victory over Buffalo State (9-4-1, 3-2-1) in double overtime. Freshman midfielder Jorge Ferrer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) scored the other goal for the Bears and senior goalie Jesse Kohler (Middletown, N.Y./Tomkins-Cortland C.C.) made six saves for his sixth win of the season.

The first half was a defensive battle with the teams combining for just four shots. The first shot didn't come until the 18th minute. Potsdam finally struck on the final chance of the half. At the 36-minute mark, Ferrer headed home a cross from sophomore defender Matthew Wagner (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) to put the Bears up 1-0. Potsdam generated two corner kicks in the final six minutes, but the score was unchanged at the half.

The lack of offensive changes in the opening half was made up for in the first 15 minutes of the second. Each team fired five shots in the direction of their opponent's goal, but none found the back of the net. The physicality of the play increased as time wound down. At 74:26, Potsdam was called for a foul in the box. Bengals junior midfielder Luke Pavone (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) then buried the ensuing penalty kick to tie the score. Fouls came frequently as regulation ticked away. Buffalo State launched a corner kick into the box as time expired, but Kohler snatched it out of the air.

Each team got two shots away in the first overtime period, but only one got to Buffalo State junior William Banahene (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and he scooped it up. Potsdam got the only shot of the second overtime and it was the difference. After a long goal kick, the ball dropped in front of Kellett and he lofted it over Banahene into the left corner of the net for the game-winner.

Banahene finished with seven saves for the Bengals. The Bears outshot Buffalo State 16-12 and edged them 7-6 in corners.

Potsdam looks to continue its playoff push tomorrow afternoon on Senior Day as the Bears host Fredonia at 1 p.m.
