Ithaca, NY – Disadvantages in both shots and corner kicks beset the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team against Ithaca College, but the Golden Knights won the category that counted and bested the Bombers 2-1 to open Liberty League play Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-2-2 overall and 1-0-0 in Liberty League play, while the Bombers fell to 2-5-0 and 0-1-0. Clarkson is back at home on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Skidmore College at Hantz Turf Field.

Ithaca got on the scoreboard first, tallying in the 15th minute when Alex Epifani found Shoshana Bedrosian and she lifted a shot over Clarkson goalkeeper Elyse Green. The sophomore keeper was stoic the rest of the way for the Knights, and that proved to be significant in Clarkson's comeback.

The Knights evened things up about 21 minutes later. Senior Madison Kather crossed a ball from the right side into the box, finding the foot of Camryn Careccia, who touched it out of the air and finished into the bottom left corner of the goal at the 35:44 mark.

Kather found herself on the scoresheet again early on in the second half. Ithaca goalkeeper Stacey DiGiorgio came out of the goal to try and clear the ball away, but the fleet footed Kather beat her to the loose ball and chipped it into the open net at 52:06.

Down the stretch, Ithaca had some chance on corner kicks and a shot went wide on a break away in the waning minutes, but Clarkson denied all opportunities for the victory.

Elyse Green finished with six saves for the Knights and Stacey DiGiorgio made three stops for Ithaca. The Bombers held a 14-7 lead in shots and an 11-4 edge in corner kick opportunities.
