Ithaca College continued a bunch of baseball streaks on Wednesday as the Bombers, 32-6 overall and ranked 18th nationally, routed St. Lawrence 15-5 in a non-league baseball game in Ithaca.
The Bombers won their ninth straight this season, improved to 19-1 overall at home and beat the Saints for the 26th straight time with Wednesday's win. SLU, now 17-14 overall, will conclude its regular season with doubleheaders against Clarkson in Canton on Saturday and in Potsdam on Sunday. Both Liberty League twinbills will start at noon.
The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead against the Bombers, as Carter Franz singled and was doubled in by Khifer O'Connor with O'Connor later scoring on a passed ball, but Ithaca came right back with three in the bottom of the inning against Saint starter Andrew Weitzel and went on to build a 7-2 lead through three.
Paul Piatelli singled, advanced on a balk and scored on Kevin Prindle's single in the top of the fourth to make it 7-3, but Ithaca came right back with three in the bottom of the inning for a 10-3 lead. Sophomore Chris Fernandez hit a leadoff homer in the top of the fifth and Franz doubled and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-5, but a trio of Ithaca relievers pitched one-hit ball over the final four innings and the Bombers added three runs in the sixth and two in the eighth to complete the romp.
Franz went two for four with two runs scored and Prindle was two for three with a run driven in for the Saints. Matt Connolly went five for five with two runs scored and drove in five runs for Ithaca.
