Junior guard Meghan Hynes recorded a season-high 16 points and four steals to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to its first conference win of the season after defeating Bard 73-34 on Friday evening in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.

With the win, the Saints improved to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in Liberty League play, while Bard fell to 0-9 and 0-3.

Second to Hynes, senior Cara Waterson tallied nine points and six rebounds, while Jenny Scudder added nine and seven, respectively. Kaelyn Kohlasch also scored nine points for the Saints shooting 4-for-6 from the field. Meghan O'Connor also recorded two new season highs with eight points and 11 rebounds.

The Saints jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead with a 3-pointer from Kohlasch and jumper from Frederick and never looked back. Scudder extended that lead to 13-6 with a rebound and put back with about 2:53 to play in the first quarter.

A six-point run for the Saints kicked off the second quarter, capped with a layup from Meghan O'Connor. The Scarlet and Brown quickly added another 10-point run after just one free throw from the Raptors. At the four-minute mark, the Saints had built a 25 point lead over the Raptors, and carried a 41-26 advantage into the locker room.

First-year Marlee Gunn made a fastbreak in the paint to give the Saints a 30-point lead with nine minutes to play in the third quarter. For the remainder of the game the Saints never fell below a 25-point margin.

"It was a nice game for us tonight," said head coach Dan Roiger. "We were able to play everyone for a lot of minutes and worked on some goals. We did a great job on the boards and did a nice job of applying pressure on defense."

The Raptors were led by Sarah Morris with 13 points, four rebounds and three steals. Elena Lefevre added 10 points, while Katie Esposito grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

The Saints tallied 41 bench points, and ten second-chance points to Bard's six.

St. Lawrence will take on Vassar in the second Liberty League game of the weekend tomorrow, January 6th. Tip off against the Brewers is set for 2 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, New York.
