The St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team finished the 2013 regular season in style on Saturday, topping the University of Rochester by the score of 12-5 to lock up the No. 2 seed in the Liberty League Tournament. Senior co-captain Brigid Hurley scored three goals to lead all scorers, while sophomore goalie Adden Cunningham made a career-high 14 saves.

St. Lawrence (11-5, 7-2) will square off with William Smith in the conference semifinals next Friday, May 3 at top-seeded Rensselaer in Troy, NY. The Engineers, who won the regular season title at 8-1, will take on Vassar in the other semifinal. Rochester finishes its season at 2-13 (1-8).

"I thought we gave another solid, all-around effort," said St. Lawrence head coach Jodi Canfield. "Our transition game was perfect (11-for-11) and we were able to gain some separation in the second half."

Sophomore Mackenzie Collins chipped in a pair of goals for the Saints, while junior Carly VanTassel had a goal and three assists. Senior co-captain Holly Noyes had a team-high three draw controls. Cassie Mahar and Elisabeth Watson led the Yellowjackets with two goals each.

St. Lawrence, which closed with a 30-20 advantage in shots, scored five of the game's opening six goals for a 5-1 lead. Collins, Noyes, Hurley and Hannah Calvelli made it 4-1 before junior Regina Rogers added her second career goal with 4:02 left until intermission. Mahar would cap the scoring with 4:02 to go, keeping Rochester within striking distance down 5-2.

Though Mahar's 18th of the year opened the second half scoring to make it 5-3, St. Lawrence would use a four-goal run to gain separation and take a 9-3 lead. VanTassel, Hurley (2) and Collins helped stretch the lead, while goals from Michalea Maybee, Emma Garfield and Blythe Crasto down the stretch would solidify the 12-5 victory.

Both teams had 31 ground balls, but the Saints took better care of the possession, totaling only 11 turnovers to Rochester's 18. Cunningham, who had a standout performance in yesterday's win over RIT, made eight saves in the first half to anchor her team to the solid lead. Frances Cooley, Maire Prosak and Marissa Traina all played in goal for Rochester, with Traina making 11 saves to lead the group.

Game times and details regarding the Liberty League Tournament will be posted as they become available.
