CANTON -- Several hundred hockey players, families and fans converged on Canton this weekend to participate in the International Junior Hockey League Showcase hosted by SUNY Canton and St. Lawrence University.
Nine teams with players 16- to 20-years-old participated in games from Friday through Sunday and helped to fill area hotels and restaurants.
“We had teams from Cape Cod, New Jersey, Long Island, and all over the northeast,” said SUNY Canton Hockey Head Coach Eric McCambly. “It was a terrific weekend, and it was wonderful to show off our new beautiful facility, our campus, and the town of Canton. Overall, it was a great success, and we plan on growing this tournament even more in years to come.”
Participating teams included the Syracuse Stampede, Trenton Habs, Eastern Kodiaks, Cape Cod Islanders, Ste. Foy Dynamiques, NY Jr. Aviators, West Chester Dragons, New Jersey Raiders, and the Long Island Wolfpack.
“The weekend was a huge success,” said SUNY Canton’s Athletic Facilities Director John Vandevere. “We look forward to bringing in more of these types of events that are great for both the college and the North Country.”
