A dramatic comeback for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team earned the Golden Knights their seventh home win in as many games as they defeated visiting Connecticut 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Cheel Arena.

Clarkson is now 13-1-2 this year while UConn holds a 4-6-2 record.

"We showed a lot being able to pull that win out and did some good things throughout the game but there are also a few things we need to work on if we want to continue to get better," stated Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "We did another good job of controlling the play and puck possession time but have to find a way to capitalize on our opportunities a little better and put teams away when we can. The last few games their have also been some untimely penalties that have put us in some tough situations so that is something that has been addressed and needs to be cleaned up. I give the team a lot of credit though for continuing to believe and play until the final whistle. They showed great character tonight. A win like that should help with their confidence and if we can learn from certain things that occurred in the game, we should be a better team for it."

After a scoreless first period, leading scorer and junior assistant captain Cayley Mercer opened the scoring for Clarkson. Sophomore Savannah Harmon drove between UConn defenders and as it appeared she was going to circle behind the Huskies' net, Harmon dropped a pass back to Mercer who was waiting in front of the goal for a tap-in score.

Heading into the third period with a 1-0 lead meant a Clarkson win seemed inevitable as the Green and Gold had a 9-0-1 record when leading after two periods. Two power-play goals for Connecticut turned the game on its head however. First, the Huskies got a 5-on-3 opportunity and although Clarkson was able to kill off the first penalty and get back to just a single man advantage for UConn, Margaret Zimmer deflected in Jordy Zacharias' shot to tie the game. Three minute later, with UConn again working with an extra skater, Zacharias curled away from two Clarkson defenders and wristed a shot past sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley.

Clarkson's home winning streak looked to be in jeopardy as the clock ticked towards zero. However, with 2:33 remaining, senior assistant captain Erin Ambrose stole a UConn pass in the Huskies' defensive end and took a quick shot that was too much for UConn goaltender Elaine Chuli, tying the score at one.

The game-winning goal came with just 1:03 left in the game. This time is was Clarkson who took advantage of a power-play. Harmon skated to the right of the net and sent a pass to senior captain Shannon MacAulay who was in the Connecticut crease. MacAulay's one-time shot was saved by Chuli, but on the rebound, the puck hung in the air just long enough for senior assistant captain Olivia Howe to reach out from behind the net and deflect it in for the go-ahead score.

Clarkson had a 46-19 edge in shots, the 15th time in 16 games that the Golden Knights have outshot their opponent. Clarkson scored one of its three power-plays while UConn went two of four on extra man opportunities. Tiley finished with 17 saves for Clarkson while Chuli made 43 stops for UConn.
