Potsdam, NY - Burying seven 3-point field goals, including four in the second half, junior Felix Llanos (Queens, NY) scored a career-high 25 points as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team picked up a Liberty League victory over Union College, 70-65, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-6 overall and 1-3 in conference games, while Union remained winless in league play at 0-5, and evened its overall mark at 8-8. Clarkson continues league play at Hamilton and Hobart next weekend.

Union jumped out early, causing the Knights to take a premature timeout, but the two teams quickly showed that there would be little separation all game long, going back and forth with neither team able to get much of an advantage. Late in the first half, Union moved ahead by eight following a Matt Petrone 3-pointer, but Clarkson scored five points in the final minute to pull back to within three at the half.

Llanos came off the bench in the first half, but immediately proved to be a sparkplug, scoring nine points to lead the Knights. Petrone and Keven Donohue each scored seven to lead the Dutchmen.

Midway through the second half, the two teams seemed to put on a scoring clinic, exchanging baskets and long range shots in an attempt push forward with a larger lead. Both Llanos and senior guard Rey Jefferson (Budd Lake, NJ) got hot from the perimeter and were able to give the Knights a small lead late. However, Union was far from out of it, as Keven Donohue nearly tied the contest on two different occasions with straight on looks from beyond the 3-point arc. Both rattled out, and Jefferson hit a pair of free throws with 8.5 seconds left to ice the game for Clarkson.

Llanos' 25 points were the most by a Clarkson player since Elson Pickering hit for 26 on January 24, 2009. He shot 8-for-14 from the field and 7-for-10 from the arc, adding in seven rebounds. Jefferson went 7-for-9 from the free throw line and scored 16 points for the Knights. Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) struggled from the field, but came through with eight rebounds while blocking five shots.

Donohue nearly matched Llanos with 19 points for Union, shooting 7-for-15 from the field, and added 10 rebounds. Rusmir Dzanko contributed 14 points (6-for-12 shooting) and Drew Goldstein tossed in 11.
