Port Charlotte, FL – Brett Hoberman, Travis Schindler and Joseph Dwy registered two hits each but a five-run third inning led Ohio Wesleyan University to a 10-2 win v. the SUNY Canton baseball team on Tuesday.
The Roos (1-6) took the lead on a Trevor Keleher RBI ground out that scored Hoberman in the second inning. Hoberman led off the inning with a single and stole second before moving over to third on a Dwy single.
The Battling Bishops (2-4) responded with one run in the bottom of the inning and added five runs in the third to take a 6-1 lead. OWU extended its lead to 10-2 with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
SUNY Canton got one back in the eighth when Hoberman plated Schindler on an RBI single to right center. Schindler singled earlier in the inning and moved to second on a fielder's choice.
A day after earning a save, Austin Lamay took the loss tossing two innings giving up six runs on four hits with a pair of strike outs and three walks.
Justin Grubb earned the win for WU giving up one earned run on six hits with eight strike outs and a walk in seven innings. Canyon McWilliams paced the Battling Bishops going 3-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, while Michael Blatchford went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs.
The baseball team is off on Wednesday before it squares off with Marietta College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Port Charlotte. S
