GENEVA -- Sophomore forward Conner DeSantis (Rotterdam, N.Y./Mohonasen) gave the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-1-1) an early 1-0 lead before Hobart College (1-3-1) rallied for a 2-1 victory in overtime.

Potsdam attacked the Statesmen defense out of the gate, forcing Hobart goalie Alec Kaminer to make two stops in the opening 5:16.

Finally, at the 15:23 mark, junior captain Chris Schrum (Manhattan, N.Y./Millennium) fed DeSantis who buried the chance for his third goal of the season. The Statesmen answered with good pressure, outshooting the Bears 5-0 the rest of the half. However, senior goalie Nick Davies (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) made two stops to keep the game scoreless at the break.

Hobart picked up where it left off in the final period, firing three shots in the first 5:34. The first was blocked, Davies stopped the second, but the third found the back of the net.

At 50:34, Nick Dosky finished a cross from Mitch Palmer to knot the score at one apiece. The Statesmen kept pressing after the goal, taking 13 more shots in regulation. However, only two managed to reach the goal and Davies handled them both.

In overtime, Potsdam junior forward Brandon Laurin (Chazy, N.Y./Chazy) and senior forward Justin Kellett fired shots on Kaminer in succession, but couldn't net the game-winner. In the 97th minute, Hobart was awarded a penalty kick and Adrian Colmenares made the most of it to end the contest.

Davies finished with six saves on the afternoon and Kaminer made five stops to earn the victory.

The Bears are back in action at 6 p.m. on Saturday night when RPI comes to town. Potsdam and the Engineers have split their last two meetings.

The Bears won a 2-1 decision in Saratoga Springs on September 14, 2013 and RPI downed Potsdam 3-1 in Troy last Sept. 19.
