Potsdam, NY - With the shot clock winding down in the final minute, Hobart's Connor Rehbaum buried a 3-pointer with several hands in his face and that basket turned out to be enough to send the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team to just its second loss in league play Saturday afternoon, a 53-48 defeat against the Statesmen at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 15-4 overall and 8-2 in the Liberty League, while the Statesmen's key victory pushed them to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in conference games. Clarkson will complete its four-game homestand next weekend when it hosts Vassar and Bard.

Neither team could muster much offense in the early going, with only 19 points combined through the first 10 minutes of the game. A 3-pointer from Rehbaum from the elbow extended gave the Statesmen a five-point lead (20-15) five minutes later, but Clarkson used a 9-0 run in the next four minutes, capped off by a John Coleman jumper from the baseline, to give the Knights a four-point edge. Trey Blanding took the ball to the bucket at the end of the half to get the Statesmen back within two at the break.

Clarkson would take a one-point lead early in the second half, but Hobart took the lead on the next possession and though there were a few ties in the next few minutes, the Statesmen would not trail again for quite some time. It wasn't until Clarkson chipped away at a small deficit with free throws that a Charles McAllister 3-pointer from the top of the key gave the Knights a 43-41 advantage with 4:05 to go. However, the Statesmen responded with a 3-pointer coming off a timeout and quickly regained the lead. Down by just three late, the Knights looked to get the ball back with a chance to tie as the shot clock was winding down. Connor Rehbaum picked up the ball near the sideline took a few dribbles and sunk a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the shot clock, pushing Hobart's lead to six. Dylan Hodownes hit a 3-pointer about 30 seconds later, but the margin was too much for Clarkson to overcome.

Felix Abongo had a team-best 16 points for the Knights and John Coleman finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Rehbaum had more than 40 percent of Hobart's points, scoring 22 on 8-for-16 shooting, including 6-for-11 from the 3-point line, and added in six rebounds. Andrew Hoy added eight points for the Statesmen.
