CANTON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's golf team opened its season with two rounds at the St. Lawrence Invitational this weekend. The host Saints won the tournament with a two-day score of 595 with New York University finishing second, 12 strokes behind. The Bears ended the weekend tied sixth with SUNY Cobleskill with a score of 632.
Junior John Hickey (Au Sable Forks, N.Y./Au Sable Forks) had a strong weekend with a 74 in round one and a 75 in round two this morning for a total of 149. Junior Conor Talty (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was next with rounds of 81 and 74 for a total score of 155. Junior Kevin Doherty (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) shot a 78 and 82 for a 160. Senior Ryan Merriman (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) (83-87-170) and junior Daniel Kurtz (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) (87-85-172) finished just two strokes apart.
Potsdam is at the Potsdam Country Club on Wednesday, when the team hosts the Bears Fall Invitational.
