Healey has 9 point day as Saints men's lax rout Vassar

St. Lawrence University's men's lacrosse team overcame a 3-2 first period deficit with a run of four straight to take a 6-3 lead and then blew the game open with 10 unanswered goals en route a 20-9 Liberty League win at Vassar Saturday afternoon.

The Saints improve to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in league play while Vassar is now 5-5 and 1-3.

Conor Healey had a goal and eight assists to pace the Saints while midfielder Charlie Duprey had four goals and Tommy Hovey three goals and an assist in what turned into a one-sided victory for the Saints.

Healey assisted on three of the four goals in the Saint second period run which turned a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 lead, but Vassar came back with two straight to make it a 6-5 game midway through the second period. The Saints then ran off four straight to end the half and scored the first six of the second half to take a commanding 16-5 lead.

Duprey had two straight to end the first half and scored the first goal of the third period to give the Saints a 11-5 lead and Healey set up three of the six goals in the run to start the second half.

Jeremy Vautour added two goals and two assists and Jamie Denicola, Connor Brimley and Jordan Dow added two goals each to the Saint attack. Alec Dietsch also played a big role for the Saints, winning 16 of 23 faceoffs.

Nick Ford earned the win in goal making nine saves while Ryan Fisher had one in relief. Vassar's Eric Mikelenich started and made nine saves while Brandon Crecco came on in relief and had eight saves.

The Saints outshot Vassar 54-28, had a 42-35 advantage in ground balls and were nearly perfect on clears, successful on 23 of 24.

The Saints rescheduled a April 8 home game against Clarkson for April 22 and will host Bard in their next outing on April 11.
