Two goals exactly two minutes apart in the third period helped the No. 16/15 St. Lawrence men's hockey team erase a one-goal deficit and Kyle Hayton made 26 saves in a 2-1 win at Brown on Friday night in Providence, R.I.

Junior Ryan Lough and senior Eric Sweetman scored for the Saints, with Sweetman notching the game winner on the power play.

With the team trailing 1-0, it was Hayton who kept St. Lawrence within reach for the comeback. He made 13 saves in the third period, including one from his stomach with the glove on the near post with just over two minutes to play in regulation. He also stopped a shorthanded breakaway attempt in the first period.

"Brown came to play," head coach Mark Morris said. "I felt like we were stuck in mud for the first two periods and then it took a real gritty effort in the third and some timely goals from Sweetman and Lough but it wouldn't have happened if Hayton wasn't as sharp as he was."

After a scoreless first period, Zach Pryzbek put the Bears in front 1-0 at the 14:25 mark of the middle frame when he slid a shot inside the far post off a cross-ice feed from Andrew Doane.

St. Lawrence came out strong in the third period and at the 6:16 mark, Lough netted the equalizer with a snipe from the left faceoff dot that sailed over Brown netminder Gavin Nieto's shoulder into the top right corner. It was Lough's third goal of the season and first since Oct. 14 against UNH at Appleton Arena. Carson Gicewicz assisted on the play.

Exactly two minutes later with the Saints on the power play, Sweetman ripped a shot from the point that cleared traffic in front and beat Nieto low for the game winner. It was also Sweetman's third of the season and extended the St. Lawrence streak to six straight games with a power play goal.

Alex Gilmour and Mike Graham picked up the helpers on Sweetman's tally. Gilmour has recorded a point in three of his four games with the Saints.

Brown played the final 2:12 of the game with an extra-attacker after pulling Nieto after a timeout, but the Saints had the better of the chances despite being shorthanded.

Joe Maguire made a key defensive save for the Bears in the crease on an attempt by Lough with 1:10 to play to keep the score 2-1.

Nieto finished with 27 saves in the loss, which dropped the Bears to 3-12-1 on the year and 2-7-0 in ECAC Hockey contests.

The Saints improve to 12-6-5 overall and 8-1-2 in conference and remain just one point out of first place in the standings.

St. Lawrence will travel to Yale on Saturday for a 7 p.m. puck drop at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
