St. Lawrence University junior Nordic skiers Leah Hart and Adam Terko each posted career-best finishes on Saturday in the freestyle events at the 2011 St. Lawrence Carnival in Lake Placid, NY. Hart finished in fourth place overall in the women's event, while Terko earned 19th place on the men's side.

Hart's finish propelled the Saints' women's team to sixth place in the team standings with 75.0 points. Terko contributed 26.0 points for his top-20 showing, leading the men's team to seventh with a total of 55.0.

"The opening day was alright, but I am much happier with the way we competed today," said St. Lawrence head Nordic coach Ethan Townsend. "Leah and Adam have both been training hard and they had excellent results in today's race."

Hart, who earned what was a career-best 15th place showing on Friday, leapt into the top-5 for the first time. The Meredith, NH native raced the 10K Free in a time of 31:30.7, earning 41.0 points towards the carnival and 50 towards an NCAA bid.

Junior Caroline Carpenter was the next Saint to cross the finish line in 23rd position, while sophomore Kelsey Nichols closed out the scoring in 43rd place. Rookie Amanda Moreland (45th) and seniors Sophie Allen (53rd) and Libby Hayden (57th) also competed for the host school in the women's 10K Free.

Terko was the top St. Lawrence finisher for the second consecutive day, though his 19th place showing in the men's 15K Free was a collegiate best. The Shelburne, VT native raced in 42:34.8 to earn 26.0 points for the Scarlet and Brown.

Senior captain Steven Vargo and first-year student Eric Lustgarten rounded out the squad's scoring behind 33rd and 41st place finishes, respectively. Senior Kyle Marvinney (47th), sophomore Connor Hunt (49th) and junior Teo Jackson (57th) also raced for St. Lawrence on Saturday.

Both individual winners on Saturday were from the University of Vermont, as Caitlin Patterson won for the second straight day with a time of 30:36.9 while Alexander Howe women the men's race in 39:54.8. Dartmouth won the men's 15K Free with 132.0 points, while UNH defeated UVM, 107-106, in the women's event.

The St. Lawrence Nordic ski teams will be in action again next weekend, Friday and Saturday, January 21 and 22, at the 2011 Colby Carnival.
