Brooke Webster scored the game's only goal, and Grace Harrison made 20 saves to lead the No. 6/7 St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 1-0 win over No. 5 Quinnipiac in an ECAC Hockey contest on Saturday afternoon at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
The win is the sixth in a row for the Saints, who remain unbeaten at 9-0-1, 4-0-0 ECAC Hockey. Quinnipiac fell to 7-4-1, 2-2-0.
"That was a great way to finish off the road trip," said head coach Chris Wells '92. "Our team really found a way to win tonight. Quinnipiac was very strong on pucks and won most of the contested puck battles all night. We capitalized on a faceoff win to get our goal and that held up."
Webster's goal came less than five minutes into the game, and she started the play herself by winning a faceoff in the Quinnipiac zone back to Hannah Miller. Miller sent a shot toward the net, but it was blocked in front. Webster found the loose puck and beat Quinnipiac goaltender Sydney Rossman with a quick shot from the slot for her seventh of the season.
The goal extended Webster's point streak to 13 games, dating back to the second game of the Saints' ECAC Hockey quarterfinal match with Princeton at the end of the 2015-16 season.
Harrison, who saw a shutout streak of 226 minutes, 15 seconds end with just 1:15 to play against Princeton on Friday night, recorded her fourth shutout of the season. The reigning ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week has allowed just one goal in the last 96 shots she has faced.
The Saints' defense helped Harrison, holding the Bobcats to 20 shots on a goal and blocking 18, with senior captain Kirsten Padalis and fellow blueliner Alex Moore both leading the team with four blocked shots.
"They had a few shots just go wide, we blocked a pile of shots and Grace handled the rest of them to get the shutout," said Wells.
Wells said Quinnipiac games are always clean, and tonight's was no exception, as neither team was whistled for a penalty.
Rossman, who leads the nation with five shutouts, made 15 saves for the Bobcats.
The Saints will return home to Appleton Arena to face Rensselaer and Union next weekend.
