First-year pitcher Cameron Morrissey no-hit visiting Hamilton into the fourth inning, but the Continentals first hit of the game drove in two runs and gave them the lead for good, as the Saints fell 4-1 in a non-conference matchup on Tom Fay Field Tuesday afternoon.
Despite hitting the first batter of the game, Morrissey faced just nine batters through the first three innings, as the Saints were able to turn a double play to get out of the first in order.
The rookie lefthander went 3.2 innings and allowed three runs on two hits with a pair of walks and one hit batter in the loss. Anthony Ferraro, Will Fellows and Beau Yaremko all made appearances in relief, with Yaremko striking out the side in the top of the ninth inning.
Taylor Digilio led the Saints with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, while Jeremy Gerringer finished 2-for-4. Evan Reichel picked up the lone RBI of the game for St. Lawrence on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning.
Hamilton responded in the top of the fourth and, after a pair of walks, Dean Rosenberg recorded the Continentals first hit of the game with a two-RBI double to left center to put the visitors in front 2-1. Graham McOsker followed later in the frame with an RBI single to drive in Rosenberg and increase the Hamilton lead to 3-1.
The Continentals also added a run in the top of the sixth inning to push to the eventual 4-1 margin.
Hamilton starter Dan DePaoli pitched 3.2 innings in the win, allowing just one run on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks. The last of five pitchers on the day for the Continentals, Ian Nish, picked up his sixth save of the year after allowing just one hit in a scoreless ninth.
St. Lawrence outhit Hamilton 7-5 on Tuesday afternoon, but left 11 runners on base. Hamilton stranded just six.
