Hameline leads Saints women's xcountry on perfect day at Plattsburgh

Junior Cassia Hameline was the individual champion as St. Lawrence University's women's cross country team joined its men's counterpart in posting perfect scores at the Plattsburgh Cardinal Invitational to open the 2014 season.

The Saints had the top five scorers in the race to finish with a perfect 15 points while RPI was second with 57, Plattsburgh third with 81, Clarkson fourth with 96 and Paul Smith's fifth with 155. The Saints are ranked 20th nationally and fourth in the Atlantic Region, but made an impressive statement in their first outing of the year.

Hameline ran 18:10.0 to lead a 75 runner field while sophomore Lisa Grohn was second in 18:12.6 and rookie Megan Kellogg third in 18:12.8. Anne Martino was fourth among scoring runners and fifth overall in 18:40.3 and Margaret MacDonald was sixth overall and fifth among scoring runners in 18:40.7 as the Saint top five scorers finished within 31 seconds of each other.

Ashley Leta was the sixth Saint finisher, ninth overall in 19:13.5 while Anna Rabideau was 11th in 19:38.7, Melanie Swick 14th in 19:53.9 and Carrie Pomainville 21st in 20:14.2. India Harvey finished 29th in 20:43.4, Claire Pacione was 39th in 21:19.2, Natalie Casey-Sanger 41st in 21:22.34, Sophia Dastoli 42nd in 21:24.6 Madeline Funk 44th in 21:33.6 and Hannah Fake 45th in 21:34.6.

Courtney Mullen finished 51st, Rachel Waldrop was 60th, Ella Gurney was 51st and Miabelle Salzano was 72nd.

The Saints will run at the Saratoga Invitational next weekend
