Junior Lisa Grohn set a meet record and was part of a record-setting relay and senior Marisa Turner won two events as St. Lawrence University's women's indoor track and field team made a steady climb up the team standings to finish third in the 2016 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships held at Ithaca College.

The Saints went into Saturday's competition in sixth place after the first seven events, but quickly started climbing the team rankings. They could not catch Ithaca or Rochester, which built on big early leads and finished first and second with 216.50 and 172.50 points respectively, but the Saints held off RPI for third, scoring 101 points with RPI fourth with 88.5 in a 13-team field.

Grohn, who went into the meet ranked ninth nationally in the mile after a second place time of 4:27.53 in the Liberty League Championships, did not quite match that time Saturday, but her 4:58.53 in the NYSCTC Championship brought both a title and the meet record as she ran the first sub-5:00 mile in the history of the indoor championship. Megan Kellogg finished second in 5:00.07 and jumped into the top 15 in the event nationally as the Saints picked up 18 points and made a quick jump up the team standings early in Saturday's competition.

Grohn and Kellogg came back to help the Saints set a St. Lawrence and facility record in winning the 4x800 relay in 9:34.60, taking almost two seconds off the SLU mark set in 2007. They joined Anna Breton and Courtney Mullen on the relay team which won by over four seconds.

Turner, who set a meet record in the 400 preliminaries with a 57.11 clocking, wasn't quite that fast on Saturday, running 58.23, but she was fast enough to hold off Union's Naomi Bechu for the title as Bechu finished second in 58.35 in a head-to-head duel in the second section of the finals. Turner also won the high jump with a 1.68 meter jump, and remains unbeaten for the indoor season in the event with seven wins in seven competitions. She has now won the Liberty League or NYSCTC title in the high jump six straight times.

Turner was also part of the second-place 4x400 relay, running the anchor leg in 58.034. She joined Molly Lennon, Elina Breton and Chinelo Asanya on the team which ran 4:05.01 and finished second to Rochester which was timed in 4:03.46.

Lennon finished third in the 500 meters in 1:26.17, Elina Breton was fourth in 3:03.50 in the 1000 meters, Anna Breton was sixth in the 800 in 2:26.24 and Chinelo Asanya was seventh in the 60 in 8.18 for the other scoring finishes for the Saints on the track on Saturday.

In Saturday field events, sophomore Meghann Wood finished second in the shot put with a 12.87 meter throw and Allison Scarf finished fourth with a 10.68 meter mark and Morgan Rosser was sixth at 10.64 meters in the triple jump.
