Kalie Grant scored two goals, and Kayla Nielsen added a goal and an assist to lead to the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 5-1 win over Yale in an ECAC Hockey contest on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena.

The Saints raced out to a 3-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game and added two special teams goals in the final nine minutes of the second period. St. Lawrence goaltender Grace Harrison made 32 saves for her seventh win of the year, and Nadine Edney assisted on the first three goals of the game for the Saints.

"It's been a while since we have heard the post-game siren here at Appleton," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92. "We have played hard in many games and haven't been able to convert recently so to be able finish today felt good. Yale has some talented kids who can make plays. Grace made some big saves to keep the game out of reach."

Lydia Grauer put the Saints ahead early, blasting a shot from the point past Yale goaltender Gianna Meloni just over two minutes into the game. Edney and Kayla Vespa picked up assists on the play.

Skylar Podvey increased the lead to two goals less than two minutes later, lifting a wrist shot from the right circle past Meloni for her sixth goal of the season. Jacquie Diffley and Edney set up the play with a quick 1-2 pass play in the neutral zone to spring Podvey free at the blue line.

Grant followed with her first goal of the game, blasting a slap shot from the high slot through a screen into the left side to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. Edney and Reyes earned assists on the play.

Yale cut the lead to two just 38 seconds in to the second period, with Claire Dalton finishing an odd-man rush with a shot from the slot that got through Harrison.

The Saints, however, responded with the next two goals to close out the Bulldogs. Nielsen got to a loose puck at the top of the left circle and fired it past Yale goaltender Kyra O'Brien for a power play goal, with Rachael Smith and Maggie McLaughlin picking up assists on the play.

Grant put the game away with her second goal of the game, a shorthanded tally on a pass from Jessica Poirier to finish a 2-on-1 break. Kristen Guerriero got the play started with a pass from her own defensive end to Poirier in the neutral zone to get the 2-on-1 started.

Meloni stopped four shots before leaving the game after the Saints' third goal. O'Brien made 26 saves and allowed two goals over the final 50 minutes.

St. Lawrence improved to 11-11-2 overall, 6-5-1 in ECAC Hockey with the victory, while Yale fell to 5-14-0, 4-8-0. The Saints will be back at Appleton Arena for another ECAC Hockey series next weekend, hosting Dartmouth on Friday and Harvard on Saturday.
