STATE COLLEGE, Penn. -- The SUNY Canton men’s golf team fashioned a team score of 350 during the first day of the USCAA national tournament.
The tournament is being hosted by Penn State Wilkes-Barre at the Penn State Blue Course, a par-72 course that measure over 7,000 yards.
There are 23 teams entered in this year’s tournament and there were no other team scores immediately available after the conclusion of day one.
The final day of the tournament is Tuesday and only individual scores will be kept and no team scores.
Four of the six SUNY Canton golfers carded season-low scores on Monday led by sophomore Storm Blackburn (Gouverneur, N.Y.) who posted an 85 (43-42).
Senior Dan Don (Gouverneur, N.Y.) posted a season-low 87 (42-45) on his scorecard. Sophomore Dave Parker (Canton, N.Y.) (46-43) and junior Jeremiah Hardin (Alpharetta, Ga.) (42-47) also had their best rounds of the season as each shot an 89.
Sophomore Nick Reddick (Alex Bay, N.Y.) also recorded an 89 (44-44) and sophomore Evan Drew (Elizabethtown, N.Y.) followed with a 90 (43-47). “Our team played the best they have as a team all year,” said first-year head coach Kevin Maginn.
“We struggled on a few holes but overall played very well on a great course. “
The Roos tee off at 9 a.m. on Tuesday to wrap up their inaugural season.
